Various Pictures of Me

Welcome to my personal web site.  This site will, over time, serve many purposes I am sure.  For the time being, it is a place for me to pull together elements of my life (past, present, and future) into a single repository.  As you visit my site--for whatever reason you came--I hope it is an experience you will remember.  I always enjoy making friends and sharing experiences so if you feel drawn to write, please do!!!

Although I was born in Victorville, California {May 22, 1955}, I consider myself to be a native Missourian.  My Dad was in the Air Force when he married my mother and when I was born but they returned to Dad's home in Missouri when he was discharged.  I graduated High School in New Haven, Missouri in 1973.  (I am registered with ClassMates.com)

I am the oldest of 8 children born to William Albert Hanks and Ruth Louise Conley.

A highlight of my teen years through my early 30's is the musical side of my life.  My brothers and I had our own band, playing primarily country music, for over 16 years.  I was the lead singer and played bass guitar.  We began as our Dad's band soon to spin off with our own variety of Country Music and were locally popular as the Hanks Brothers Band.  I often miss the music side of my life, particularly singing.  When I get home to Missouri to see family, we will inevitably break out the six-string and the old song book and spend however long we have going through each and every song in the book.  We were a cover band with no original music.  But we did put our own styling to mainstream country of the era.  I love getting my singing fix by going to karaoke night at bars in cities and towns I visit.  I like being the stranger that no one has heard and blowing them away with my vocal talents.

I am and always will be a MAJOR country music fan and buff.  I like the music I grew up with and the music through the 70's and 80's and all the changes country music went through in those decades.  And, the music of the 90's and the new decade we are enjoying with all the expansive variety today is awesome.  My music collection grows weekly.  Country Music is my passion.

I have married and divorced twice and have three children and three grandchildren.  The splendor nor demise of the marriages are not web page material.  But I will add here that there have been times in the last decade + of my life that had it not been for my two ex wives and my children I would have been a very lonely man.  They will always be a most important part my life.

A college English and Communications instructor once spoke of me as a "A young man from very poor beginnings who has pulled himself up by the boot-straps and has and will achieve much..."  I have always held myself to fulfill her prophecy.  My first wife and I were expecting our second daughter when still working nights in a foundry, I started going to the community college part time.  I knew I could not be a factory worker all my life.  Ten years later with a working spouse going to school also, two young daughters and still playing in the band every weekend, I graduated with my final degree, a Master of Science in Management from Maryville University - St Louis.  Although I was proud along the way of the Associates and Bachelors degrees, I never took time to acknowledge my accomplishments until that graduation day in May, 1986.  Career and higher education information can be found on my resume page if you are interested in details.

In the twelve years I was with the foundry in Missouri, I held several positions from various laboring positions to quality technician, production control clerk, data entry clerk, programmer and data processing manager.  After the foundry, I taught community colleges and universities, held technology management positions in industry and currently love my position as a Global IT Project Manager for a manufacturer of durable medical equipment.

For over five years, ending in 2001, I was a part of a dairy goat project that occupied a lot of my time in those years.  I loved working with the animals and the genetics and the breed improvement programs were the mentally stimulating part for me.  I liked showing the animals at fairs and open shows and gained a lot of satisfaction from the experience.  The defunct web site, www.drucken-hanks.com, is attached to this site for reference.  These goats and this herd name will always be a part of my legacy.

I am just an ordinary guy proud of my country roots and proud of the accomplishments of my life thus far.  And as far as I am concerned, I intend to accomplish a lot more before I am done.

Statistically, I am brown (with gray) haired, blue eyed, and ethnically Irish and Native American.  My favorite color is green (especially hunter green).  I am interested in astrology, numerology, and most new thought.  I am spiritual in nature and certainly believe in a single source for all the universe is.  I strive, sometimes less consciously than others, to remember that I matter in universal terms.  Both my sun and moon signs are Gemini and I have an Aquarius rising.  My favorite number is 2.

Closing this for now, March 20, 2002.
